A Family Tradition
Growing up with three generations of masons before him, Curtis knew masonry was more than just a career choice.
His journey in masonry started with conversations across the kitchen table with his grandfather, Ed Hutton (Founder of Hutton Masonry Contractors). He began as a labourer for his uncle, Steve Hutton (Hutton Masonry Contractors) at the age of 16, where he had the opportunity to learn from some of the best masons in the trade.
Coming from a long line of business owners, like his grandfather, uncle, and father, Raymond Deir (Raymond Deir Co Ltd.), Curtis had a calling to open his own business. In 2014, Deir Masonry was born, and encouraged by his father, Curtis earned his red seal certification for masonry in 2018.
For Curtis, running his own masonry business is a family tradition. Each project is treated with the care and respect that carries on his heritage as a fourth-generation mason and son of an entrepreneur.
why hire a red seal tradesman?
Certification Standards You Can Trust!
Masonry is no longer considered a compulsory trade in Ontario. What that means for homeowners is there is no longer provincial oversight of whether people working in Ontario’s masonry trade have the credentials to do the work you are hiring them to do.
Thankfully, the Red Seal endorsement is nationally recognized seal on your provincial certification that exists to ensure trades meet a minimum standard of workmanship. Achieving a Red Seal takes significant time and hands-on development to understand and cultivate the experience necessary to pass. As the trades equivalent to a PhD, it requires commitment to mastery of the craft and dedication to complete the certification process. (AKA - it's kind of a big deal)
The Red Seal standard is a standard of excellence, and one that is not easily rewarded. As a public regulatory institution, they are not interested in making the certification standards easy and of those that apply, only a handful succeed in certification each year.
At Deir Masonry, we understand the burden upon homeowners to sort the professionals from untrained or inexperienced tradesmen. With no official government standards defining what it is to be a mason, we are committed to delivering the nationally recognized standard that earned us our red seal endorsement.
Choosing a red seal certified mason will help protect your investment and saves you time, energy, and headache. Work with someone who understands the trade and has the insight and experience to do the job right the first time.
